The Town of East Hampton Fire Marshal will conduct fire origin and cause investigations in the Village of Sag Harbor when requested to do so by the Fire Chief pursuant to General Municipal Law 204-D. Each year, the Town of East Hampton Fire Marshal’s Office, conducts a fire prevention program for the Sag Harbor Elementary School in the Village of Sag Harbor. Each class receives a presentation on the principles of fire prevention and how to recognize hazards.

Education

Depending on grade level, students are given the opportunity to demonstrate various fire safety techniques. Younger children demonstrate techniques such as crawling low under smoke, checking the door in the mock bedroom for heat, escaping through the window in the mock bedroom and of course the most important of all: stop, drop and roll. Older children are taught about the crime of arson, safe babysitting techniques and the proper operation of a fire extinguisher.
